Tacloban City Mayor

"Welcome to Tacloban City. It is with great pride and pleasure that I welcome you all to our beloved City - the educational, business and cultural center of Region VIII and the gateway to Eastern Visayas.

Tacloban has become highly urbanized with its population of over 200,000 but it still maintains the ambience of a small town with its personal concern for visitors and an easy, happy attitude towards
friends and strangers.

Come and visit us. Discover business opportunities; enjoy tourist attractions, experience the traditional Waray hospitality."

TACLOBAN CITY
A HIGHLY URBANIZED CITY
Tacloban is now a Highly Urbanized City.
The people of Tacloban have spoken. They are for Tacloban's conversion from a component city to
a highly urbanized city.

"The reclassification of Tacloban into an HUC is a big leap towards
development and progress," says Tacloban City Mayor Alfred S. Romualdez

At December 18, 2008 at exactly 10:40 Thursday night, Tacloban officially joined an elite list of highly urbanized cities, the 1st in Eastern Visayas and the 34th nationwide. .

City elections officer Susan Collamar said the proclamation of Tacloban as a highly urbanized city was "historical" due to the record number of voters who went to the polling precincts during the plebiscite.
