Where to start: The site looks great from the distance but once taking a closer look things start to fall apart.
The pools are ill-maintained and I did not even dare to dangle my feet into that water.
The rooms are mouldy and smelling their part and the furniture needs to be replaced.
Most of the staff seemed professional but a few were outright rude.
No Internet connection or wireless and at way over $100 per night an insult........office staff let me use their computer once.
There are internet cafe's out the gate to the left next to a small restaurant.
Which brings us to the restaurant of the resort.....!! Breakfast was included but had to beg for brewed coffee and first mornings was given instant.
Spam on rice for breakfast...please!!!
Other meals were not worth writing home about.
There are so many needed improvements it would fill a few pages.
The site is kept more or less clean and that the beach water is grey/sandy is not the hotels fault.
"Clean" i wrote but a closer look at their pic-nic tables and grills etc reveals total decay. A pity - there seems to be staff a galore standing around but few seems to be doing much - well, it is run by the government and that explains a lot.
Plus and the worst - front desk staff messed up my new pin number Credit Card by punching in numbers without a clue resulting in the card being cancelled by the card provider.
All in all - would I go back? Yes but would bargain the price down to what a 2** hotel would charge.
Was told that the hotel has found investors and that improvements are on the way.....if.

I think this is the only resort and hotel in Leyte, but I can't really tell since I have rarely visited this town in the past. It didn't seem to have sparked my interest, because there isn't really much to do here. The only reason I visited this place was because my dad traveled a lot and I had to tag along while my mom was away. As far as I can remember he always stayed at MacArthur Park Beach Resort.
It's not really the coolest place to be, but it has the most historical value when you think about it. This is the location where General MacArthur landed when he came back to the Philippines, thus the name of the resort.
The sands are not white, and the water isn't really clear. But since not a lot of people come here, the whole place is very secluded and it's easy to get a room even during the peak season. The rooms are kind of simple, actually too simplified considering they call the place a resort.
There are not a lot of things to do here, no water activities at all. Maybe because there are not a lot of tourists and there are plenty of nearby islands that offer more facilities and recreational activities.
The last time I went there was about 4 years ago with my parents, but only for a whole day. We took the last boat out of the island to go to another island.
Nothing much has changed really, some of the furniture was replaced with more modern ones. Some facilities to accommodate guests were built. But all in all, this is a great place to go if you want to experience the Philippines.if.
Liked: very secluded
Disliked: no water activities
Would I recommend this hotel to my best friend? most likely
